Media Blitz
I’ve had a string of good luck with shows and movies I’ve watched recently, so why not share a few thoughts about them:
🧙 Wicked
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Who hasn’t seen Wicked at this point? I’ve seen it twice by now, but only because the first time was spoiled by noisy kids and their mom kicking my chair the entire movie. But I digress.
Loved this one so much—it is soft, and loud, and enthralling, and tender, and exciting, and exhilarating all at the same time. Cynthia Erivo: 11/10 no notes. Ariana Grande: such a pleasant surprise! Jonathan Bailey: marry me. 🤤
💃🏾 Dancing With The Stars S33
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I admit I’m a DWTS bandwagoner, having been merely influenced by how the show exploded on Tiktok recently. I caught the tail-end of this season, right before the semi-final, and I’m kicking myself for not tuning in earlier. Even U enjoyed watching it with me every Tuesday night.
I loved Ilona and Stephen this season, but I was rooting for Chandler to clinch the mirrorball trophy. She and Brandon had been the most consistent based on the episodes I’ve seen, but sadly Joey took home the top prize. Sure, he’s nice to look at, but there’s something about the way he dances that feels pretty off to me.
👩🏻🎤 A Drag Queen Christmas
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
U and I booked tickets to see this the last minute, and fortunately we still got good seats at the middle orchestra of Meridian Hall!
We went mainly for Brooke Lynne Hytes, a drag queen we love so much and who is also the host of Canada’s Drag Race. Brooke is from Toronto so she was expected to turn it out, and I’m pleased to inform you that she did, in fact, ate that up—esp. her Defying Gravity performance with Plasma 😱
Loved the other girls, too, but the OG ones such as Shea Coulee and Manila Luzon simply brought the house down. And Venus’s Big Dick Queen segment was hilarious, too! I just wish they had a big group number at the end. 🤷🏻♀️
🔪 The Traitors Canada S2
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
OH MY GOD THIS SHOW.1 Having seen the US version, I tend to think the Canadian franchise was a bit timid and lacks the flair and bombast of its American counterpart. I’m glad to have been proven wrong for the show’s second outing!
Needless to say, spoiler alert ahead!
The season started off slow but quickly picked up once the traitors started turning on each other. Michael John doesn’t have what it takes to be a traitor because of how transparent it is, which irked Kyra so much because of how strategic she’s been playing the game.
I was ambivalent about Neda throughout but turns out she’s the ultimate mastermind after successfully turning everyone on Kyra. I was sad to see Kyra go because I loved how she played the game, but I found out many people online were turned off by how assertive she was. Hmmmm. What does that say about me that I like her more than Neda? 🤔
If you haven’t seen it yet I implore you to, because this is quite possibly the stupidest but also the most entertaining set of Faithfuls the franchise has ever had.
To the uninitiated, Traitors is basically an Among Us reality show: a group of people (mix of celebrities and normal folks) is sequestered in a castle, and the “Faithfuls” need to find out who among them are the “Traitors” murdering them one by one each night.↩
